What Does Happiness Mean to You?

I feel happy when I make small progress toward my goals. However, I don’t think this is genuine happiness because happiness, as a feeling, is temporary. Feelings are changeable. But if I were to define happiness as something eternal, I might become a skeptic.

True happiness, I believe, comes from meaning. Meaning can be found in things like family, beliefs, and faith. In my case, I have a religious faith, so I find life’s meaning in the Bible. The teachings of Jesus guide me.

A few weeks ago, I came across an entry in my diary from 2017. I was a freshman at the time, and I had worries that felt significant. = I was a freshman at the time and had worries that felt significant. But now, those worries no longer bother me. My biggest concern today is self-actualization. Yet, I know this concern will naturally fade as time passes.

Happiness isn't a fleeting feeling of satisfaction that comes from achieving a goal. True happiness comes from an unchanging source of meaning, like an eternal well that never runs dry. For me, genuine happiness comes from following Jesus. The most important thing is whether the direction of my life aligns with the meaning I pursue.
