It is believed that history and literature are more important than science and mathematics in schools. However, I do not agree with the idea for following two reasons. To begin with, science and mathematics can be applied in a lot of industries such as engineering and computer science. So students who are trained in the fields would be able to greatly contribute to society. Moreover, the two subjects help students think logically. That is because science and mathematics have structured concepts in it. There is a study supporting it. The research was conducted by some cognitive psychologists in Hankook University in Korea, the purpose of which was to explore how studying mathematics affects students. Students were divided two groups and researchers have only one group study some materials in mathematics. According to the results of the research, students who were in experiment group received higher score on a logical thinking test. In conclusion, science and mathematics are important subjects in that the two can make potent contribution on society and improve students' logical thinking skills. Therefore, I think that the Department of Education should emphasize the classes on science and mathematics in policy.
