Sometimes, the movie which is based on a novel is very different with the novel itself. Almost all the movies is more simpler=are simplier than the original novel because of the running time of the movie. In the novels, the time does not matter, so an author can make many=long and complex stories. However, the director of the movie have=has to keep the running time in his mind. He cannot help in boiling it down to fit the running time. On the other hand, in the case of "War of the Worlds", the=some characters were=are added in the movie to show the more dramatic situation than the original.
